Why Volunteer with GVA

Volunteering with Global Vision Achievers (GVA) in Kenya is more than an experience—it’s a chance to make real, lasting impact in the lives of youth, children, and young mothers living in some of the country’s most underserved communities.

GVA was born in Kibera, Africa’s largest urban slum, as a youth-led theatre group promoting peace through storytelling. Today, GVA has grown into a dynamic, grassroots organization with programs reaching across Nairobi, empowering the most vulnerable through education, talent development, mentorship, and humanitarian support.

Here’s why your time here matters:

  • Whether you're tutoring teens for their KCSE exams through the MaMito Project, helping children through Elimu Uzito, or leading learning sessions in children’s homes, your time directly strengthens Kenya’s future. Many students lack teachers, guidance, and resources—but your presence brings hope, structure, and motivation.

  • In the MaMito Centre, young mothers aged 13–20 are returning to school, learning entrepreneurship, and accessing childcare—because someone like you volunteers to teach, listen, and walk with them. From classroom lessons to baby care, you help restore dignity and direction.

  • With events like the Kenya Children Homes Talent Show and the PEASIC Festival, GVA uplifts youth through music, theatre, and performance arts. Volunteers are part of planning, coaching, and celebrating local talents that would otherwise go unnoticed.

  • You don’t just teach—you build relationships. You may help with food distribution during emergencies, participate in slum clean-ups, organize peace forums, or help train local facilitators. GVA offers full cultural immersion with real grassroots impact.

  • Volunteers gain hands-on experience in education, project management, fundraising, child development, communications, and more. From mentoring to event organizing, your skills are stretched and strengthened daily. And yes—there’s time for hiking, swimming, cultural exchange, and even trips to Mombasa or Kisumu with our GVA branches.

  • GVA runs its programs on a non-profit basis, driven by vision, sacrifice, and the collective effort of people like you. When you volunteer, you become part of a movement—not just a program. Whether you’re helping children in class, supporting young mothers, filming a project, or simply listening—you’re restoring confidence, creating opportunities, and helping entire families rise. Join us in shaping a stronger, more empowered Kenya—one child, one mother, one community at a time.
